Tobogganing around Waswanipi

Tobogganing is definitely a favourite pass time for children (and some adults like Astrid and Skye) in the winter. Now that the snow has been here for a good month, most of the rocks on the hills around town are all covered up (careful though, still a few pop out). Yesterday afternoon Youth Fusion took to the hills after school. Unfortunately now that the days are so short it's pretty much dark by 4pm so we only got one ok photo. But it was great none the less and we had lots of laughs!

Snowflakes, Snowflakes and more Snowflakes!

Last week was, you guessed it, SNOWFLAKE mania. We made so many snowflakes it was crazy. But now the front entrance of WJHMS is decorated beautifully. The snowflakes boarder this year's class photos. Happy Holidays - there is only a week and half of school left until the break.

some paper was used for claws instead of snowflakes :)

one of Astrid's attempts sure made us laugh!

Just Dance 3 Competition

Since Friday was a Ped Day, meaning no school, WJHMS Student Council decided to hold a Just Dance 3 competition at the Youth Centre Thursday evening. It was SO FUN!!! Everyone got a chance to compete and then it was just down to 3 pro dancers. Here are some pictures and a video of the last 3 standing (dancing).

Last Radio Show of 2011

This past Thursday Youth Fusion had its last radio show of 2011. It has been fun! We wish all our listeners a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. See you in 2012!

Floor Hockey Tournament

Last weekend, the W.J.H.M.S. student council organized and held an extremely successful floor hockey tournament at the high school gymnasium. With six all-star teams vying for the gold, energy was high and all the moves were out. The nail-biting championship game between Team 3 and Team 5 ended up going into overtime and then a spectacular shoot-out finale, with Team 5 finally emerging as the tournament champion. Congratulations all players on an excellent showing!

Student Council

The W.J.H.M.S. student council is on a roll! With weekly (and sometimes bi- or tri-weekly) meetings, the student council members have successfully organized bake sales, dances, a floor hockey tournament and other fun events. Last week, the student council held a pizza party dinner to celebrate all their hard work. Check out our facebook page to see what the student council members will be doing next!

Healthy Cooking Dance Edition

Last week's healthy cooking turned into a dance party. While our cookies and sweet potato fries baked in the oven, some people made snowflakes while others danced. Check out the photos and a video of our shuffle pro, Kiersten Nottaway. She's awesome!

Earring Making

Last week we had a special guest, Michelle Lacombe, artist and crafter extraordinaire, here in Waswanipi. She helped us with an earring making workshop. Thanks Michelle! Later in the week some other people also wanted to make earrings so we had a second workshop.

Healthy Cooking & Birthday Planning

This week in healthy cooking, we made sweet potato frittatas. As we waited for our treat to finish baking in the oven, we made a huge poster for Skye’s birthday. Ultimately, both our poster and the frittata came out looking amazing!
