Recipe Book

After our successful healthy cooking week, we provided the students with a recipe book to take home and share with family and friends. Check out the recipes from this week below - including salmon, the popular guacamole recipe and healthy chocolate mousse!

Friday Edition of Healthy Eats

We've had a wonderful week exploring different types of food.

Today, we finished the cooking classes with some banana muffins, more guacamole, yogurt dip, veggies and pita chips. We also had yogurt parfaits and a special chocolate mousse (actually made with terrifying tofu!).

Emily put together a recipe book of all the meals we made, which we'll offer online in a few days. So, if you want to make these things at home, you can very easily and inexpensively.

We all had so much fun that we're going to keep the project going once a week in the next few weeks.
Be sure to join in!

March 17th Radio Show!

Mad March Edition of the Willie J. Happyjack News

We're always looking for people to help us bring all the information together,
so please come out to news club meetings!
All are welcome :)

Healthy Snacks!

Today we enjoyed some healthy snacks. We made guacamole and baked tortilla chips, sliced vegetables and yogurt-mint-garlic dip and we had yogurt-berry parfaits for dessert. Stay tuned for the recipe book that goes along with this week's activities.

Public Speaking

Last night, at Rainbow Elementary, seven students from the high school participated in the local Public Speaking Competetition. There were three categories: Cree, English and French. The contestants had to pick from a list of topics and give a speech 5 to 7 minutes long.

Elijah began the evening with a speech about youth apathy.

Next was Kayla, with a moving piece about her brother recently diagnosed with ADHD.

Kurtis' speech in Cree was about life as a teen in 2011.

Orlando offered another perspective on youth apathy.

Melody addressed the audience in French, speaking of life as a teenager in 2011.

Kevin, dressed sharply for the occasion, spoke of his plans if he were chief of Waswanipi.

Kehoe was the final contestant of the evening, speaking about teenage life, this time in English.

 The judges deliberate.

The audience anxiously awaits the results!

The winners of the evening were:
Kurtis - Cree
Elijah - English
Melody - French

The winners will present their speeches at the regional competition in Ouje-Bougamau in April. Congrats to all participants, your words made for a great evening!

Supper for Luch :)

Today we were culinary adventurers!

We cooked lemon-salmon pieces in tinfoil packages, pan-fried asparagus (everyone's new favourite vegetable), made Smart whole wheat pasta and a salad with the leftovers from yesterday's sandwiches.

It was affordable, quick and delicious!!

Tomorrow we conquer healthy snacks: Veggies and Dip, Guacamole and Pita and Yogurt Parfaits. Yum!
